A veteran of the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office was arrested and charged with DWI over the weekend.
According to a sheriff's office spokesperson, 47-year-old Chief Deputy Douglas Hooper, was arrested at around 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
Authorities say Hooper was pulled over on Highway 17, just before entering Elizabeth City.
Hooper was not on duty at the time of the incident. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
Before joining the sheriff's office, Hooper worked with the police department on the regional drug task force.
Hooper has had no prior convictions.
