Chief Deputy Charged With DWI

A veteran of the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office was arrested and charged with DWI over the weekend.

According to a sheriff's office spokesperson, 47-year-old Chief Deputy Douglas Hooper, was arrested at around 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

Authorities say Hooper was pulled over on Highway 17, just before entering Elizabeth City.

Hooper was not on duty at the time of the incident. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.

Before joining the sheriff's office, Hooper worked with the police department on the regional drug task force.

Hooper has had no prior convictions.

Here is just another prime example of a LEO who thinks he is above the law. All he had to do is call someone to come and get him. No not him. Mr Chief Deputy do you think another LEO is going to lose his career for you not me. If you are stupid enough to me in that position I'm stupid enough to arrest you.

If I had not got out of LE in '82 and were still on the streets, might be drinking too. If ya can't handle the stress or have a problem with the drug alocohol, it would be best to look for a different job.

what a dummy... did he think he would get away with drinking and driving because he was a LEO? He should have known better after the Highway Patrol Captain was busted and fired for this as well as others. Now the law mandates he lose his license and what good is a cop who can't drive.... goodbye job!

I think he deserves a second chance. He should be given a job in the Obama White House. Who was the guy that was bartender there when president Bush was in office? Those were the good ole' days, maybe he could get a job working there.Give the guy a break, innocent until found guilty. Why show the mugshot ? He looks like Nick Nolte did in his mugshot.
