Residents will get to decide whether or not to ban smoking on a local beach. If it passes, the ban would be the first in our state.
The Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen voted 3-2 against a proposed ban on beach smoking Thursday night. They voted 5-0 in favor of putting the issue to a public vote in November.
If the ban passes, smokers who light up on the beach could be hit with a $250 fine.
