A single-vehicle wreck in Wilmington has killed three people and sent another to the hospital with significant injuries.
Police say the crash happened Monday night, when a sports utility vehicle rounded a curve at a high rate of speed and slammed into a tree.
Investigators have not yet released the names of the victims, but say two of the people who died were women and the driver was a man.
Police say no one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.
Investigators say the SUV was traveling with its headlights turned off, and the driver sped up after passing a police cruiser.
The fourth person in the vehicle was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
