An unusual hazard at Carolina Beach left an unsuspecting eight year old girl injured on Wednesday.
A Good Samaritan at Freeman Park in Carolina Beach pulled eight-year-old Madison Martin from the water with blood pouring from her legs. The Martin family said the current pulled her into some pipes.
They said none of the signs posted warned of the pipes or the strong current. The town manager said it's a shame the accident happened, but people need to be alert.
"You should just be cautious. It's fully exposed, you can see it. It's not like it's under water and a hidden danger. Stay away from it, be careful of the currents and just stay away from the pipe," Town Manager Tim Owens said.
The pipes don't belong to the town or the state, but the Army Corps of Engineers has agreed to remove them. The job is scheduled for sometime after July 4.
