Burning Ban Leads NC Beach To Cancel Fireworks

The hot, dry weather along the North Carolina coast has forced Carolina Beach to cancel its weekly fireworks show.

Town officials say the New Hanover County Fire Marshall told them the burning ban in place for the eastern part of the state means no fireworks Thursday.

Carolina Beach officials still plan to have a show next week and a big fireworks extravaganza on Independence Day.

State officials issued a burning ban this week for 27 counties south of U.S. 64 and east of Interstate 95 because of drought conditions and increased wildfire activity.

The ban on open burning will be in effect until further notice for the following counties: Beaufort, Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Dare, Duplin, Edgecombe, Greene, Hyde, Johnson, Jones, Martin, Nash, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Pitt, Robeson, Sampson, Tyrrell, Washington, Wayne and Wilson.
