After Wilmington Plea, D.A. Says Man Will Plead Guilty In New Bern Cold Case Murder

A man who authorities say confessed to a cold case murder that happened thirty-five years ago pleaded guilty today to another murder in Wilmington.

Andrew Adams will serve a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the death of a Cape Fear Community College student. Latricia Scott's body was found buried in Adams' backyard.

After his arrest, Adams was connected to the 1977 rape and murder of Gwendolyn Nelson of New Bern. New Hanover County D.A. Ben David says Adams will be transferred to Craven County where he will plead guilty to second degree murder and second degree rape. It's expected Adams will receive another life sentence for each offense under the sentencing law in effect in 1977.

Nelson was found dead near the cafeteria outside F.R. Danyus School in New Bern. According to autopsy results, blunt force trauma to the head was the cause of death.

Craven County District Attorney Scott Thomas says Adams will make his plea in New Bern next week.
