Teenager Says She Was Bitten By Shark

A teenager is recovering at home after her family says she was bitten by a shark on Topsail Island Friday afternoon.

Carley Schlentz of Greensboro was bitten on her left leg while swimming with friends at Topsail Beach. She received 60 stitches at a Wilmington hospital.

Topsail Beach police tell us there is no official confirmation of the shark bite and it is possible the girl's leg could have come in contact with a sting ray.

This is the first reported shark bite this year in North Carolina waters.

Ohhh beware, it was a sexual predator! Print your flyers for the culprit! That shark should be caught and forced to register like this country forces most who aren't actual offenders!

I have a confession...I bit that girl. But I didn't mean to. You see I'm visually impaired and have a bad habit of swimming with my mouth open. My bad. If it's worth anything, she did NOT taste very good, which is why I didn't drag her out to sea "Jaws" style. Oh, "Jaws," he brought shame to our race, such shame. BTW, I'll be visiting Emerald Isle, Indian Beach and Atlantic Beach over the 4th of July. Heard there would be alot of people throwing bait fish off the piers and you know I can't resist a free meal. Maybe I'll see you guys there. Happy 4th of July everyone from Mr. Shark. Happy swimming!

If I have not ever seen a more ridiculous plot to cover one's butt, this is wuold be the first! Come on man a stingray?!? How dumb do they think we are. I'm no expert but Im pretty sure that a leg that has come in contact with a stingray looks completely different than a leg that has come in contact with a shark! Nice one Topsial "officials" you almost got me LMAO!!!!

There are sharks along all of the NC coastline. Being attacked is rather rare in NC. I see sand sharks and black tip sharks caught and thrown up on the beach by fisherman everymorning when I go walking. Topsail Island is no different than any other area when it comes to sharks. I also see sting rays at low tide when walking in the shallow water near New Topsail Inlet. One must be careful to not step on them since they are bottom feeders.

I have also seen sharks at topsail beach. They are out there and I wouldn't doubt that the she was bitten. My uncle no longer surfs there because of his encounters with the sharks.

Hey I was attacked by a shark last summer in the Pamlico sound. It rammed the boat and tried to tip us over. I took a few shots at it with the shotgun. It was a great white! I saw it jump up and grab a seagull.
