Two People Are Dead In Fiery Motorcycle-Taxi Crash

Two people are dead after a taxi and motorcycle crashed in Wilmington about 12:40 a.m. Saturday.

Police say the motorcycle was traveling at a very high rate of speed on Eastwood Road when it struck the taxi, causing it to overturn. Officials say both vehicles caught on fire.

Police report when the flames were finally extinguished, they found the motorcycle driver inside the taxi.

The driver of the motorcycle was 26-year-old William Wilson Ward Jr. of New Hanover County, and police say he had borrowed the motorcycle. Officials also say earlier this month, Ward had been cited for driving during revocation.

Also killed in the crash was the driver of the taxi, Shukil Mohamed Rahimbux, age 49, of Wilmington.

According to a release, Eastwood Road was closed for over five hours, and the state Department of Transportation sent a truck to help clear the wreckage and debris from the roadway.
