Elderly Man Backs Over, Kills Wife

A 92-year-old North Carolina woman has died after her husband backed over her with his car.

The Star News of Wilmington reported Thursday that 89-year-old Robert Calhoun of Wilmington was trying to park his car in the garage when he ran over his wife, Josephine Howey Calhoun.

Police say Robert Calhoun was unhappy with the way he parked after pulling his car into the garage. His wife got out and was behind the car when he backed out.

Highway Patrol Trooper C.J. Lewis said Robert Calhoun thought he'd hit a cat or a dog.

When rescuers arrived, Josephine Calhoun was still trapped underneath the car. She died at the scene.

I'm not saying that what he said wasn't right. Only that there is a time and place for such comments. This is neither the time nor the place. This man just lost his wife in a horrible accident. Let the family grieve without pointing fingers!!!

This is a terrible accident, the family will definitely be in my thoughts. But Practical is right. This is yet another example of why drivers over a certain age need to have their license taken from them, or at least have a road test EVERY year. There are too many instances lately of senior drivers having accidents that cause grave injury or death. Again, Mr. Calhoun and his family are in my thoughts.

The last part of your comment was so clearly uncalled for. This couple had probably been married for 60 years. He has lost his companion by a tragic accident. Shame on you for saying such. I plan to keep this man and his family in my prayers. Mr. Calhoun, I pray that God will give you comfort.

This is a tragic incident, and I am praying for this man and his family. He must feel tremendous guilt. But his driver's license needs to be taken away from him. He was obviously not paying attention while operating his vehicle.

I feel terrible for this man as he has lost his wife due to him maybe not even being able to think clearly. I feel awful for the entire family. If that was me that ever had this done with my wife, I could'nt live with that. Thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. RIP Mrs. Calhoun
