Police and fire units are conducting the search near the railroad trestle behind Neuse Road.
Police say they did find footprints on the shore near where the boat was found, so it is possible those inside made it out okay. Authorities have been checking nearby boat ramps, but so far there is no sign of someone putting in a boat and not returning.
