U.S. Transportation Secretary Coming To GTP

Transportation leaders at the state and federal level will be in Kinston Thursday, at the Global TransPark.

U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood will be joined by
North Carolina Secretary of Transportation Gene Conti, North Carolina DOT Director of Aviation Richard Walls and Congressman G.K. Butterfield.

"As we work to rebuild America's infrastructure, I wanted Secretary LaHood to have close look at some of the efforts being made here in eastern North Carolina," Butterfield said in a press release from his office.

"Multimodal transportation facilities like the North Carolina Global TransPark are economic engines that drive the American economy," said LaHood. "Thanks to the leadership of Representative Butterfield, investments in transportation infrastructure are providing a foundation for prosperity in North Carolina."

Butterfield and LaHood will also tour Spirit AeroSystems, GTP and Delta Private Jets.

The GTP rathole is a feel good boondoggle for the edc and chamber of commerce types. Without it, what would little else could they point to to justify their existence, a chicken gutting plant? The GTP has only served to further line the pockets of a small number of individuals and families who have preyed on the working class of eastern North Carolina for generations and will probably continue to do so. What has become of those fifty-thousand high paying jobs I wonder? It's only been fifteen plus years, maybe we just need to wait a little bit longer. As a economic engine and good idea the GTP ranks right up there with Soul City. Cut off the funding now. Take Mr. Lahood to Wilburs and call it a day.

Quit picking on Mr. Butterfield. that's the limit of his capability. Anyone who holds GTP up as a success needs to have their head examined. Likewise for anyone who votes for him.
