Highway 903 in Pitt County was shut down for three and a half hours Wednesday after a tractor trailer tipped over going around a bend, and collided with another 18-wheeler coming the opposite direction.
Around 3:30 p.m Wednesday at the intersection of highway 903 and Old Snow Hill Road the two semis collided at the Greene and Pitt county line shutting down the highway until right before 7:00 p.m. Trooper Everette Deans with the Highway Patrol says Kenneth Howell of Goldsboro came around the bend, tipped over, and slid across the highway spilling tons and tons of scrap metal everywhere. Howell was transported to Vidant Medical Center with minor injuries.
"They can't make it at that speed. You can't get out of your driveways. You can't get out of the intersection, and there'll be more wrecks, and there have been tons of them in the last few years," said a man who lives nearby Billy Vandiford
The other driver wasn't injured. Trooper Deans says charges against Howell are pending.
A Pitt County highway is closed after two tractor trailers collided this afternoon.
Highway 903 near the Greene County line has been closed in both directions since the crash around 3:30 p.m.
Trooper Everette Deans says a big rig carrying scrap metal lost control in a curve, flipped over and slid into an oncoming tractor trailer. Scrap metal was thrown onto the highway and into neighboring yards.
The driver of the overturned truck, Kenneth Howell from Goldsboro, was taken to Vidant Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, according to Deans. The other driver wasn't hurt.
The Highway Patrol says charges are pending against Howell.
