Heavy downpours Thursday caused some streets to flood, and homes to lose electricity in parts of Pitt County.
The Winchester Drive area of Ayden was flooded by the heavy rains around lunchtime. A couple of feet of water stood on some streets. Residents say this is the third time in a month their neighborhood has become a flood zone.
The Ayden area received about 1.40 inches of rain from the storm, while Kinston was hit with 2.36 inches. Greenville received just under seven tenths of an inch from the storm.
Greenville Utilities says some 2400 customers lost power around 12:20 p.m. due to lightning. The areas impacted were Chicod, Blackjack, Stokestown, 43 South, Hollywood and Grimesland. GUC says all power was restored by 1:00 p.m.
