Police say an employee fought off an armed man with a step ladder, and the robbers got away with nothing.
Kinston police have charged Bradley Roberson of Kinston with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon after a search last night.
Police say around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday an employee at the Fast Lane on West Vernon Avenue was taking out the trash when he was confronted by an armed man. The employee ran away, so the gunman came into the store through the rear door where another worker used the step ladder to fight off the man.
The gunman and another man ran from the business and police tried to stop a blue Toyota Camry seen leaving the area. Two men, one with a silver handgun, were seen leaving the car and running away. A K-9 unit was brought in, but could not track the men. After a continuing search, around 2:20 p.m. police arrested Roberson. They also found a .40 caliber handgun.
Roberson was jailed on a $50,000 bond and police say they continue to investigate the robbery attempt.
