A serious accident closed down a major highway in southern Lenoir County Thursday afternoon.
The Highway Patrol says Highway 11, just north of Pink Hill, is back open as of about 7:00 p.m.
The accident involved a tractor trailer and a pickup truck, right in front of the Food Lion.
Lenoir County Emergency Services Director Roger Dail says the pickup truck driver was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Dail says it doesn't appear the tractor trailer driver was injured.
Both lanes of the highway were shut down.
