Greene County deputies are keeping an active patrol today in Snow Hill after a man says he was shot there Thursday afternoon.
Sheriff Lemmie Smith says his office got a call around 4:30 p.m. Thursday from Brandon Scott, a local in his early twenties.
Sheriff Smith said Scott told deputies he was walking along Banks Road when four black men drove by him in a small, black car asking for directions to Kinston.
Officials said the victim reports the foursome shot him and took off.
Deputies arrived at the scene to find cash and bullet casings on the ground, but no shooting victim.
Detectives got word later that afternoon that Scott had checked in to an area hospital with a bullet wound.
Sheriff Smith said the man appears to have been grazed by a bullet on the chest.
Investigators are continuing their work on this case and have stepped up patrols in the area.
No word yet on any specific suspects in this case.
