GREENVILLE POLICE: Men Tried To Sell Stolen Gun To Off-Duty Cop

Police say two Tarboro men tried to sell a stolen gun to the wrong man -- an off-duty Kinston police officer.

Greenville police say the Kinston officer was approached Saturday afternoon in the Best Buy parking lot by two men who tried to sell him a handgun. The off-duty officer called police with a description of the vehicle and the two men.

A short time later police found the vehicle near the intersection of Arlington Boulevard and Evans Street. Inside they found a Ruger .44 caliber revolver and a box of ammo. The handgun had been stolen from Raleigh.

Royail Bottoms, 23 and Makeveyon Hyman, 20 have been charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carry a concealed weapon and attempt to sell/purchase a weapon without a permit.

The two were jailed on $1,500 bonds.
