Police say a man who was out on probation shot two people in Kinston two weeks ago, killing one of them.
Kinston police have charged Desmond Pearson with the murder of 18-year-old Jahad Moore and the wounding of 24-year-old Jacoby Riddick.
Authorities say Pearson is a validated gang member.
Officers said they got a call of shots fired at the intersection of East Street and Washington Street on April 12th, and found two victims.
Pearson was charged with the shootings while he was an inmate at the Wayne County jail. Deputies there tell WITN they arrested Pearson Tuesday on charges of possession of a stolen firearm and possession of firearm by a felon after being contacted by Kinston police.
Wayne County investigators could not say if the weapon they found on Pearson in their jurisdiction was the murder weapon from the Kinston shooting.
Pearson was on probation for an assault inflicting serious injury conviction last year in Lenoir County.
The 22-year-old also has unrelated pending charges in Lenoir County for assault with serious bodily injury, common law robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of stolen goods or property.
He is now in the Lenoir County jail under no bond.
