Tractor Trailer Driver Killed In Fiery Crash Identified

The Highway Patrol has released the name of the tractor trailer driver killed in a fiery crash Wednesday in Lenoir County.

Dead is 60-year-old Ronald Easley of Salisbury. He was the driver of the tractor trailer that slammed into the rear end of another big rig that was stopped on Highway 258 because of road construction. The two vehicle burst into flames.

The Highway Patrol says Highway 258, south of Kinston reopened about 7:30 Wednesday night after a deadly, fiery wreck this morning between two tractor trailers.

The accident happened around 9:40 a.m. on Highway 258 and Albrittons Road, south of Kinston. The two big rigs erupted into flames and one driver was killed.

Sgt. H.S. Hemby says the first tractor trailer, a moving van, was stopped on the highway because of nearby bridge construction. The second 18-wheeler then slammed into the back of the other truck.

A witness tried to get the driver of the second truck out of the wreckage, but flames flared up almost immediately. That truck was carrying building supplies.

The moving van was full of household goods.

The driver of the moving truck was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
