Three daily newspapers here in Eastern Carolina are changing hands, being sold to a Florida media company.
The Jacksonville Daily News, the Kinston Free Press and the New Bern Sun Journal are among several papers owned by Freedom Communications that are being sold to Halifax Media Group. The sales price was not disclosed.
Freedom is selling all of its North Carolina and Florida properties to Halifax. Also included are newspapers in Havelock and Surf City.
Halifax, which owns 16 newspapers, says it will offer jobs to all existing employees.
In April Freedom sold its television stations off, and on Friday also closed on the sale of four Midwest newspapers to another company.
