An incumbent state lawmaker who lost in the primary has officially asked for a recount.
The State Board of Elections says Representative Stephen LaRoque made the request on Wednesday.
Tuesday's canvass of the votes showed LaRoque lost to newcomber John Bell by 36 votes in the Republican primary for District 10. That district is made up of Lenoir, Craven, Green and Wayne counties.
On election night, Bell was ahead by 54 votes.
