The Mother Earth brewery in Kinston has been awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification status from the U.S. Green building Council. It is the first brewery in the nation to receive a gold certification for being green.
LEED is a voluntary program that provides verification of green buildings.
The council informed Mother Earth it was the first brewery to achieve a certification higher than silver.
