It's the first summer in decades without the Kinston Indians, and while baseball is still being played on occasion at Grainger Stadium, fans say it's not the same. Kinston Parks and Recreation Director Bill Ellis says it's working hard to bring in a team probably by 2014.
It's the first summer in 25 years the Indians aren't playing ball at Grainger Stadium. The team moved to Zebulon in Wake County. There have been 79 baseball games this summer- a lot of high school and college teams have been playing on the field.
"I just can't quite get into college baseball. The dinging of the bat does not suit me as well as a wooden bat. So I enjoy going out and watching those kids because they're very athletic and hardworking, but it's not professional baseball at the end of the day," said K- Tribe fan Chris Maroules Jr. who owns nearby Christopher's Cafe.
