Kinston Police are searching for a group of men going around neighborhoods claiming to be contractors, when they're really just scam artists.
Kinston Public Safety Officers say a senior citizen called about four white males in a black Dakota pickup, that came to her home claiming she needed $3,500 in roof repairs.
Kinston public information officer Woody Spencer says the woman got so curious about what they were referring to she even got up on the ladder to see for herself.
Thankfully she didn't give them any money, but instead called police.
Officers say this time of year they see more and more scams and warn you to not give any money up front for home repairs.
They also suggest you never give business to anyone who just comes up to your home if they're not licensed or bonded....which is information they should be able to supply.
