Kinston police say two people have been charged in three different shootings in the city on Sunday.
The shootings happened within 5 hours of each other, and police so far haven't said whether they are related.
The first shooting happened just before 11:00 a.m. on West Highland Avenue where officers found Sterling Smith with multiple gunshot wounds. Smith remains at Vidant Medical Center, while police say they have warrants out for Jamell Howard for the shooting.
Then around 2:30 p.m. police say they got a call about numerous shots fired in the area of George Avenue and Stadiem Drive. They say Khyric Alexander was found with a gunshot wound to his left hand/arm area. Police say a home on George Avenue and a nearby vehicle were also damaged by gunfire.
The final shooting happened just after 4:00 p.m. on J.P. Harrison Boulevard. Police say Marquez Williams was shot multiple times to his chest and pelvic area, as well as his thumb. He is being treated at Vidant Medical Center, while police have charged Wesley Warren with attempted murder. Warren is jailed on a $1,000,000 bond.
Kinston Police are investigating 2 separate shootings they say happened Sunday.
A commander with Kinston Police says that the first happened around 10:57 a.m. Officials say that 26-year-old Sterling Smith was found with multiple gunshot wounds at 201 West Highland Avenue.
Police say they have taken a warrant out for the arrest of 26-year-old Jamell Howard. Officials say that warrant is for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Smith was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital, and then transferred to Vidant Medical Center.
Police say the 2nd shooting happened at 4:14 p.m. at 501 JP Harrison Boulevard. Officials say that is the location of the C-Mart. Once on scene, officers found the victim, Marquez Williams.
Officials say they developed a suspect, 33-year-old Wesley Warren, who eventually turned himself in.
Warren has been charged with attempted murder and is being held in the Lenoir County Jail.
