Police said the 21-year-old shot on Wednesday night in Kinston is still in the hospital.
Commander Tim Dilday with Kinston's Department of Public Safety said the man shot was Creshawn Williams of Kinston.
Officers do not know his medical status at this time. They said it appeared Williams was shot in his right side.
Police said they are continuing their investigation of the shooting on East Washington Avenue at the Mitchell Wooten Apartments.
Still no word from officials on a description of the shooter.
As for the victim, Williams has a criminal record. He has pending charges of breaking and entering, injury to personal property and larceny.
More details are expected to be released later on Thursday.
The search is on for a gunman after a man is shot in Kinston.
Sgt. Bayless with Kinston Police says that it happened around 10:23 p.m. in the area of Building 13 at the Mitchell Wooten Apartments just off of East Washington Avenue.
Police say that a man in his early 20s appeared to have been shot once in his right side.
We're told the victim was taken to Vidant Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
Police did not have a description of the shooter.
You may recall in May, Kinston Police were going door-to-door as part of "Project Safe Measures" in this same neighborhood.
The program is aimed at stopping violence in the area. After speaking with neighbors, police said they were bringing those concerns to the table in a discussion on how to make residents feel safer.
