In Kinston three candidates are running for mayor after current Mayor B.J. Murphy announced right at the registration deadline that he would in-fact seek re-election.
Along with Mayor Murphy, candidates Ralph Clark and John Marks are running for the seat.
We spoke with all three of them Monday about what they feel needs to be done to continue to reduce crime in the city.
Mayor Murphy says, "Our public safety officials have been knocking on doors, doing the trick or treat candy trunks, doing the day in the park events because they want to develop, and we want them to develop, relationships with the citizens, so the citizens can help us deter crime."
John Marks said, "Programs to teach the parents for our kids to stay out of the streets because they don't have any other recourse."
Ralph Clark said, "You have professionals running this system, the police, the public safety, and you let them do their job, and bring back good ideas."
Early voting in Lenoir County saw about ten-percent of all voters turning out.
