Jacksonville PNC Bank Robbery Suspect In Custody

The Lenoir County Sheriffs Office says deputies arrested a man in the Grifton area Friday afternoon who was wanted for robbing a Jacksonville bank about a month ago.

Alonzo Murrell was wanted by the Jacksonville Police Department for robbing the PNC Bank located on Western Boulevard September 13. Friday about 3:00p.m., the LCSO received an anonymous tip about seeing Murrell at an abandoned residence at 4645 Sleepy Fox Drive in Grifton.

Lenoir County detectives and the US Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force of the Eastern District of North Carolina went to the address and surrounded the residence. Officers entered and located Murrell inside. Murrell was taken into custody without incident.

Murrell was transported to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and held until Jacksonville Police arrived and assumed custody. Murrell has now been returned to Onslow County.

Sheriff Chris Hill said,“This is definitely a win for the citizen who was observant and wanting to protect their community. The information that was given to us was correct and a bank robbery suspect is in custody tonight. I commend this citizen for their dedication to living in a safer society.”

The Jacksonville Police Department has issued an arrest warrant for the PNC Bank robbery on September 13.

The suspect has been identified as Alonzo Murrell; thanks to tip given to crime stoppers.

The vehicle involved in the robbery was located with the assistance of the Kinston Department of Public Safety.

Murrell is known to frequent Kinston and Lenoir County.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Murrell is urged to contact authorities.

Police have released surveillance video from a bank robbery that happened almost two weeks ago.

On September 13th the PNC Bank branch on Western Boulevard in Jacksonville was held up.

Police released a still photo of the bank robber later that day, while on Thursday released the surveillance video, which has been enhanced.

A reward totaling $10,500 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case.

The reward for information that leads to the arrest of a Jacksonville bank robber now stands at more than $10,000.

The PNC Bank branch on Western Boulevard was robbed last Friday shortly before noon.

Today, the bank announced it would offer up to $3,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Already Crime Stoppers has offered a $2,500 reward, while the North Carolina Bankers Association has a reward up to $5,000.

According to the FBI, there are currently five unsolved bank robberies in Eastern Carolina dating back to 2009.

Police are investigating a bank robbery this afternoon.

It happened just before noon at the PNC Bank on Western Boulevard in Jacksonville. That branch is near the Henderson Drive intersection.

Police say the robber left with an undisclosed amount of cash in a small, dark, older model SUV.

He is described as a black man with a dark complexion, approximately 6'4" tall with a thin build. He was wearing knee-length blue jean shorts, a white tee-shirt with the letters "SF" or "SP" on the front and writing on the back.

Police say the robber was also wearing a white hat and sunglasses.

The last bank robbery in Jacksonville was back in February 2012 at the Triangle branch of Marine Federal.
