Former Lenoir Co. GOP Chief Charged With Insurance Fraud

The former head of the Lenoir County Republican Party has been charged with insurance fraud.

The State Department of Insurance has charged Harry Edwards III of Kinston with two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses. Edwards withdrew as a Republican candidate for Lenoir County commissioner earlier this year and was a member of the county planning board.

Investigators say in June 2008, Edwards submitted fake life insurance applications to The Chesapeake Life Insurance Company and Transamerica Life Insurance Company. They say the 32-year-old man received advance commission in excess of $16,000.

The state says Edwards has since voluntarily surrendered his insurance license and is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday.

Fairydust, He was a public official when he did his dastardly deed! And would have gotten away with it, if it wasn't for those meddling kids! The guy is a Jerk.

If you would check your facts commonsense. He is no longer a public official. He did the right thing and resigned his position. If you would be honest with yourself and others we all have something to confess-do we not?

Speak for yourself JMB. I don't know what you get up to in your bedroom or on your computer, but I've never broken the law in my bedroom or on my computer. I may slip a mile or two over the speed limit occasionally, but that is a far cry from a corrupt public official violating the public trust. A felony is a SERIOUS crime, and very few citizens, no matter how imperfect, have ever committed a felony. Maybe you have something to confess?

He is human? How dare anyone, Republican, Democrat, or other, be human? How dare he make a mistake? The most interesting idea is that every one of us make mistakes, knowingly or unknowingly. The only difference between what you and I do, and what Harry "Edwards III of Kinston" has done is that his mistakes have been made known. Your wrongdoings have been kept "under wraps" so to to speak, or in your bedroom, on your own computer screen, hidden away with your best friend, done in private where no one can see. Let us now ask ourselves this question oh wonderful human beings of apparent perfection, when will it be us? How long will it be before your friends, family, and all of society knows about your mistake? All of us fall, some of us just fall in public while others fall in private. He has made a very large and unwise decision, but we are all capable of being in his shoes.

Hey, Frustrated; nobody had to "give this story to the news". An arrest is a matter of public record.

Let's see Easley, Perdue, Edwards, Rangel, Waters etc. etc....its not just a Republican thing. They all need to go and be replaced by people who truly want to serve our citizens and not themselves.....if such people even exist.
