A local playground was re-named to honor a flower girl who died in a car wreck last year.
Six-year-old Ava Kendall was killed in a car accident on Highway 43 West on the way to a wedding ceremony in April of 2011.
The playground at Parrott Academy in Kinston was named in honor of the former student.
Hundreds of students, faculty and family members gathered to honor Ava on the playground she called her "second home." More than $25,000 was raised to re-build the playground.
