There is good news for travelers in East Carolina who head often to Raleigh. The DOT is building the next section of the bypass around Goldsboro.

The $104.4 million contract to Barnhill Contracting of Tarboro will build 12-1/2 miles of the four-lane divided highway from east of Wayne Memorial Drive to just inside Lenoir County. There will be no stoplights on this bypass.

It is expected to be completed in July 2015 and will join a 4-mile section that opened in December. The DOT says the final part of the Goldsboro bypass is scheduled to be awarded this summer. The entire 20-mile long project is expected to cost $246 million.
