A Civil War ironclad will hit the road this weekend to move to a new home.
The CSS Neuse in Kinston is the only commissioned Confederate ironclad that remains above water. It was pulled from the Neuse River in the 1960s and has been at the CSS Neuse/Governor Richard Caswell Historic Site.
This piece of history will move on Saturday to a new climate-controlled site on Queen Street in Kinston. The organizers said the "260 tons will travel at the dizzying speed of one mile per hour and should arrive at its destination after two hours."
Watch for this at sunrise on Saturday in Kinston.
