From Hurricane Irene's victims, to the twisters that ripped through Eastern Carolina earlier this year, the impact of severe weather in our area is being felt this Christmas season.

Friday marked eight months since tornadoes ripped across our state, killing 12 in Eastern Carolina alone.

Like many places, people in Greene County are still recovering from the tornadoes.

The Hill family, whose house was totaled by a twister, rebuilt and moved back in late last month. And while there's still unpacking and landscaping work to do, they say they're grateful to be able to spend Christmas at home. Jason Hill says, "It's gonna be special because we got through the tornado together and we're back where we're from and we're going to be all together - so it should be really special."

Greene County superintendent Dr. Patrick Miller says progress is also being made on the middle school. He says the demolition phase is almost complete, and expects reconstruction to start in the spring.
