A mother and her one year old child escaped injury after a vehicle came crashing into their living room this morning.
Kinston police say it happened around 10:15 a.m. at Herritage Court Apartments on Doctor's Drive, right across from Lenoir Memorial Hospital.
29-year-old Rashmi Samthosh and her one year old son were inside, when the white Mazda drove straight in her apartment. Public Safety Officer Chuck Coulombe says the car travelled about 10 feet into the living room before coming to rest.
Residents who live in the same complex say they had no idea what was going on when they heard a loud explosion.
The driver, 61-year-old Lynwood Tucker of Kinston, is believed to have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash. He was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where is condition is unknown as this time.
Officer Coulombe says there is about $10,000 worth of damage to the apartment and $5,000 worth to the car. Coulombe says the mother, her husband and their child will have a place to stay. Herritage Court is providing another apartment to them until repairs can be made.
