It is premiere night as a homegrown restaurant from right here in the east makes a national splash on television.

At 9:30 Thursday night, PBS will be airing the first episode of "A Chef's Life."

The series documents the Kinston restaurant, Chef & The Farmer, and how husband-wife team Ben Knight and Vivan Howard are keeping things local.

The TV show premiere means a spotlight is shined on eastern North Carolina cuisine.

The second season of "A Chef's Life" is now fully funded; Knight said they worked to raise $200,000 for the production of season two.

A special viewing party for the first episode is scheduled for Thursday night at the restaurant.

PREVIOUS STORY:

The last year and a half has been all about rising from the ashes, literally, for one local restaurant.

The ascent continues for owners of Chef & The Farmer, Vivian Howard and Ben Knight: on Tuesday, the couple will open the doors to a second restaurant situated in downtown Kinston.

"We think that Kinston is quickly becoming a destination all over the state for food and drink," said Howard. "This place is just one more that makes our town an attractive place to spend an evening."

The Boiler Room, an oyster bar, is set to open Tuesday, August 6th off North Street in Kinston.

Chef & The Farmer has put Kinston on the map for fine dining as it raked in a national distinction on OpenTable.com as one of the Diner's Choice Top 100 restaurants in December of 2011.

The next month, fire from a storage room forced the restaurant to shut its doors for nearly four months and they worked to clean-up and repair the eatery.

Now with one restaurant fully operational and a PBS Series documenting the place set to air in September, Howard and Knight are expanding within the city limits.

Howard said patrons can expect lower prices at The Boiler Room in comparison to Chef & The Farmer.

The alley way doors will open on North Street Tuesday, August 6th.
