The state Labor Department is investigating the electrocution death of a billboard worker Tuesday afternoon.
It happened around 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 258 south and Thomas Suggs Road in Greene County.
Sheriff Lemmie Smith identified the dead worker as 36-year-old Jamie Brantley of Rocky Mount.
The sheriff says Brantley's ladder hit a power line and he was electrocuted. The state says it happened while the man was putting up a billboard.
The worker was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital where he died.
