A tractor trailer jack-knifed on a wet road Wednesday afternoon, blocking a major Pitt County highway for 4 hours.

Troopers say both lanes of Highway 258, from outside the Farmville town limits to the Greene County line were blocked off about 2:30 p.m and reopened just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

They say Carl Hall from Edenton was northbound on the highway and they believe his tractor trailer might of hydroplaned and lost control. The truck then entered a roadside ditch and went about 40 yards before stopping. The grain truck was empty.

Troopers say they anticipate charging the man with exceeding safe speed for conditions. They are urging people to find alternate routes because of the road closure.

The 70-year-old Hall was not hurt in the accident.
