Authorities say there has been another home invasion where a member of the Asian community is a victim.
Law enforcement officials say this is at least the 13th similar robbery here in Eastern Carolina in recent months and they believe they are all connected.
The latest happened Tuesday night on Tarheel Drive, just outside of Mount Olive.
Wayne County deputies say the owner of the Mount Olive Chinese Restaurant and his son were robbed as they arrived home.
Captain Richard Lewis says five masked men forced the two inside their home with an unknown weapon. One of the victims was struck with the weapon and they were robbed of their money.
A similar home invasion happened just last week in Winterville involving the owner of a Japanese restaurant, while last month two people were hurt in another home invasion in an upscale New Bern neighborhood.
Police say in the past several months there have been other home invasions involving Asian victims in Kinston, Tarboro, Washington, Goldsboro, Wilson, and Roanoke Rapids.
In the Winterville case last week, police have asked the SBI for assistance.
"There are some details with this case that are so similar that we don't want to disclose them right now because that could hamper the investigation down the road, but they are eerily similar," said Winterville Police Chief Ryan Willhite.
