NEW INFO: Two Robberies, Shootings In Kinston

Kinston's Department of Public Safety is investigating two shootings and whether the crimes are linked.

Commander Tim Dilday of Kinston Public Safety says officers responded to a gunshot victim at Lenoir Memorial Hospital just after 10 p.m. Thursday. 44-year-old Kevin Nalls of Dupree St. in Kinston said three men, who appeared to be teenagers, robbed him at gunpoint near the corner of Charlotte Ave. and Dixon St. Officials said one of the men shot Nalls in the calf after the robbery.

Nalls has been treated and released from the hospital, Dilday said.

Just before midnight, officers responded to a second shooting. This crime scene is near the intersection of Hicks Ave. and Adkin St. 36-year-old Yinalo Dawson of Highway 58 South was robbed by three people and shot. Dawson told officers he then exchanged gunfire with the subject. Detectives say Desmond Pearson of Kinston was dropped off at Wayne Memorial Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Both Dawson and Pearson were airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

Commander Dilday says detectives have developed some suspect information, but no arrests have been made. He said it's not clear if the crimes are connected, but the possibility of a link is under investigation.

The first shooting happened in a neighborhood on the northeast side of Kinston, while the second happened on the southeast side. Commander Dilday noted the two crime scenes are not in walking distance of each other.

I went to visit a friend on the "East Side" this weekend. He's lived there over 40 years. Once I started talking about the recent crimes, he hung his head. He's completely ashamed of Kinston! He was once proud to say he lives there, but now he's looking to retire...elsewhere. Sad too that his house has been paid for nearly 25 years. I wouldn't live there.

Harsher penalties need to be enacted. They should also bring back the chain gangs cleaning and building roads. In addition if you receive the death penalty with definitive evidence resulting in almost zero chance you aren't guilty then you should be executed the next day. No sitting around on death row for 10 years filing appeals funded by the taxpayer

You know, I grew up in Kinston and my family still lives there. I hate what it's turned in to. The one thing that I've not seen in the comments listed is an idea or suggestions on what can be done to change things. Think about it; we STILL have a high rate of teen moms, families who shouldn't have in are on welfare and are sucking up the benefits from people who do. Those who have jobs are living pay day to pay day because they are being irresponsible with their $. Let's take the education seriously that's being offered at KHS, NLHS and SLHS. Look at all the death and destruction in the world and imagine how great the OPPOSITE would be; it may be the unknown, but the unknown can't be any worse that what's happening now. Politics, religion, classism and solialism aside; let's use some common sense and work together to change things. I went to school with one of the guys mentioned in this article and he was a good guy then and he can be again.. Just like Kinston.. Work together!

I have lived in kinston for nine years and live on the south side of town but honestly if I have to go intotown I only go during the day and only down heritage. I agree with big al it is to bad when law abiding citizens are afraid to go into town.

Kinston IS a haven for robbers, thieves, alcoholics, and drug addicts. If you want to commit a crime, you'll never do the time as long as you lie, cheat, steal, and kill in Kinston. Born there, decided I didn't want to die there (especially not prematurely.) Left there 10 years ago and have never looked back.

I go to Kinston all the time and I never ,never go unarmed. These little punks will have a really bad day if they ever try to rob or hurt me or my family. We need to have a policy where people LAW ABIDING citizens are required to carry openly or concealed if they meet the requirements. However all should have a firearms training class. You would see a dramatic drop in crime. It has happened in Ga. There is a town that does this. and they have a crime rate of less than 10 percent. When Fla opened up the conceal carry the crime in Miami dropped way down. Gun control does not work. The criminals are gonna get guns not matter what.So here is the deal arm yourself and have a better chance of survival,or choose not to and act like nothing is ever gonna happen like O BAMA and Brady bill lovers and see how you do when a gun is at your head and you have no way to defend your self or family! God Bless you all!!! God put these punks in the places they belong in Jail or in the ground!

East Kinston has become a cess-pool. It's sad to see a town go to the devil. People tell me if you don't "pay the man" he'll pop a cap in you. This is just one reason decent people (all colors) are moving out of the city to the county. It's totally out of control.

Okay, northeast side or southeast side of Kinston, both are on the EAST side of Kinston. It's time for some changes in that area, how long will the thugs run it like it's thier own town before Kinston/Lenoir Co. actually does something?
