Kinston's Department of Public Safety is investigating two shootings and whether the crimes are linked.
Commander Tim Dilday of Kinston Public Safety says officers responded to a gunshot victim at Lenoir Memorial Hospital just after 10 p.m. Thursday. 44-year-old Kevin Nalls of Dupree St. in Kinston said three men, who appeared to be teenagers, robbed him at gunpoint near the corner of Charlotte Ave. and Dixon St. Officials said one of the men shot Nalls in the calf after the robbery.
Nalls has been treated and released from the hospital, Dilday said.
Just before midnight, officers responded to a second shooting. This crime scene is near the intersection of Hicks Ave. and Adkin St. 36-year-old Yinalo Dawson of Highway 58 South was robbed by three people and shot. Dawson told officers he then exchanged gunfire with the subject. Detectives say Desmond Pearson of Kinston was dropped off at Wayne Memorial Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Both Dawson and Pearson were airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Commander Dilday says detectives have developed some suspect information, but no arrests have been made. He said it's not clear if the crimes are connected, but the possibility of a link is under investigation.
The first shooting happened in a neighborhood on the northeast side of Kinston, while the second happened on the southeast side. Commander Dilday noted the two crime scenes are not in walking distance of each other.
