$5.7 Million Invested In Downtown Kinston

There's signs of growth for one Eastern Carolina downtown. Kinston says nearly $5.7 million has been spent or committed to its downtown during the past fiscal year that just ended.

The Pride of Kinston's survey shows 18 new jobs have been added thanks to downtown business growth. The $5.7 million dollar figure reflects estimates of property owner expenditures to match facade grants, the cost of renovating or re-fitting buildings, expanding business inventories, as well as new business that have located in the Kinston Enterprise Center.

The Pride of Kinston was established in 1984 to lead downtown revitalization efforts.

    As far as I could tell, the best thing in Kinston besides the BBQ festival was the Mother Earth brewery. Is that where the new jobs are?

    five million and 18 jobs and tehy call that progress? I've been here for 9 years and all I can see is a micro brewry and a block of heritage street refurbished but queen street is still the most religous street anywhere
