Kinston, NC – Former K-Triber and current Akron Aeros third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall will represent the United States team in the XM All-Star Futures Game as part of Major League Baseball’s All-Star Weekend. The game will take place Sunday, July 11th at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, home of the Los Angeles Angels. Chisenhall and Lake County Captains catcher Chun Chen will also be representing the Cleveland Indians organization.
Chisenhall is having a phenomenal bounce back last three weeks after slumping and suffering through a shoulder injury earlier in the season. He now has a .337 batting average with six home runs and 21 RBI in just 22 games since returning from the disabled list on May 28th. On the season, he currently leads all active Aeros with his six homers and slugging percentage of .452 while ranking second with 34 runs scored.
This is the Eastern North Carolina natives second stint with Double A Akron after joining the team in early August last season and participating in the 2009 Eastern League playoffs. He batted just .183 in 24 regular season games, but then led the Aeros to the EL Championship by batting .467 (14-for-30) in seven contests during the playoffs. Upon his first promotion to Double-A, he had ranked among the leaders of the Class A Carolina League in RBI, extra-base hits, homers, slugging percentage, doubles and hits.
Baseball America ranked Chisenhall as the second-best prospect in the Indians organization prior to the 2010 season. Cleveland selected the former shortstop in the first round (29th overall) in the June 2008 Draft out of Pitt Community College in North Carolina. The left-handed hitter is a native of Newport, NC and is officially the youngest player on the Aeros roster after turning 21 years old last October.
The second half of the K-Tribe season starts with a bang today through Tuesday, June 29th! Don’t miss an appearance by IRONMAN, Former WWF star Ivan “The Russian Bear” Koloff, a t-shirt giveaway and Fireworks.
