Governor Perdue Visits GTP

Governor Beverly Perdue attended the Global Transpark Authority's annual board of directors meeting Wednesday morning, and issued a challenge to board members.

Governor Perdue says she's proud of how far the Global Transpark has come and is looking forward to Spirit Aerosystems opening there next month, but she says the Transpark needs to attract more businesses.

She challenged board members to come up with short and long term strategic plans to attract new tenants to the Transpark, and wants to see progress by the end of the year.

The Transpark owes about 38 million dollars to the State Treasurer, but Perdue says right now the focus isn't on money it's on attracting new businesses and jobs to the area.

Transpark Board Members say a supply-chain management company that works with Spirit Aerosystems has moved into the Transpark and will be announced later this month.

Ted, you are confusing the GTP Authority with the former GTP Commission, now known as North Carolina's Eastern Region: "A somewhat confusing bureaucracy was one of the challenges originally confronting GTP. In addition to the GTP Authority, the GTP Foundation was established in 1993 to raise funds to hasten development. Then in November 1993, state legislators created the GTP Commission to levy an annual tax on motor vehicles in the 13-county GTP Region from 1994 to 1999." It is the North Carolina Eastern Region, not the GTP Authority, that administers the funds generated from the vehicle tag fees. In fact, state law prohibits any of those funds from being spent for development of the Global Transpark.

I wonder how many jobs the people from Onslow County have at the global transpark? When Tony Padgett & the other county leaders charged us an extra fee for our vehicle tags the county would benefit many times over . We wont live long enough to see it .FIRE ALL THE BUMS IN RALEIGH .

Did they let her use a hangar to park her broomstick in while she was there? She was just in Lagrange last week. Why didn't she go ahead and visit the Global Transpark then instead of making two trips? Because she doesn't care how much taxpayer money she blows on wasted trips, just like that sorry loser in the White House doesn't care how much he wastes.Wasteful Dumbocrats.

The governor isnt worried about the 38million owed to the taxpayers by the GTP?!?! How about collect the money, and find out where the rest of the money they fleased off the taxpayers when? Usually when someone owes the state, the state will take it, whats up with that.
