A Kinston Police Officer tells WITN that a 19-year-old involved in a pool accident Saturday has died at the hospital.

Officials say Jarad Norworthy of Kinston died at Lenoir Memorial Hospital Sunday. They say they do not know the official cause of death.

Officials say they responded to a call of a possible drowning Saturday to a home on Rouse Rd. in Kinston. They say when they arrived they found Northworthy submerged in the home's pool in the deep end.

Officials say at least one other person was around at the time. They say they do not believe foul play was involved.

The investigation into the death is ongoing.

Previous Story:

An Officer with the Kinston Department of Public Safety says around 2:42 pm Saturday officers responded to a call of a possible drowning at 1905 Rouse Rd. in Kinston.

Officials say upon arrival they found a 19-year-old male in a pool at the residence.

Officials say he was removed from the pool by EMS and taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital for treatment.

There is no word on his condition right now.

Officials say the teenager was not a resident of the home.

Thats what I don't understand.....Why was someone having a pool party when there wasn't anyone there to save him or atleast pull him out before EMS got there? Thats a sad idea on the parents of the pool to allow their children to have a pool party and noone can swim. Sounds like there is more to this story.....

Hey Anon, why would people be having a pool party and no one know how to swim? If that fact is true, this had to be the dumbest group of people in ENC (and that says a lot).

If someone has fallen into water within feet of someone on land, the person on land can use a tool to try to help them before they go under; a long branch, a broom, rope, flotation device, people holding hands, etc... Unless, he was already submerged and it was noticed too late. Even then, in a pool, holding hands could have worked, I believe. Too bad more people don't know that.

Could he have been trapped by the suction of the drain??

"anon", I mean really... if someone appears to be drowning under water, does someone have to tell you to pull them out?? Also, Don, 911 operators do provide lifesaving instructions over the phone, but it requires the caller to actually stay on the line & listen to what they have to say - then do it! Most callers usually get mad because 911 is asking so many questions & "not sending help", hang up, or just plain refuse to do what the communicator says!
