Highway 11 Back Open

Highway Patrol Dispatch confirms Highway 11 is back open in both directions. Dispatchers couldn't offer any further information about what caused the highway down to one lane this afternoon.

Previous Story:

Highway 11 in Lenoir County northbound was down to one lane just before 6:00 p.m. Thursday because of an accident just south of the Dupont plant.

A small compact car was heavily damaged in the crash. The car was in the median. It appears at least one other vehicle was involved.

There is no word if anyone was injured.

Just before 6:00 p.m., traffic was starting to back up in the southbound lane but was still moving. Traffic in the northbound lane was not affected by the crash.

I saw the whole thing from rear view mirror. Several caution signs indicated that the left lane was closed ahead. Small car could not get over and was stopped where the cones were. A church charter bus plowed right in the back of the small car. The car was crushed from the back and knocked into the median. the bus drove a little further down the highway and pulled off to a road to the left. I pray person in car is alive.

I came through there just after it happened and I pray that everyone in that little car is okay! But, I did not see the other vehicle, where did it go?
