A local police chief, who is also running for sheriff, is under investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation.
Jennifer Canada, spokeswoman for the NC Attorney General's office and the NC Department of Justice, confirms there is an ongoing investigation involving Stantonsburg Police Chief John Hunt, but says any additional information would have to come from the district attorney.
When contacted Monday, Chief Hunt said he had no comment. Mayor Bill Edmundson tells WITN News that Hunt is still on the job, but it would be improper for him to say anything else right now. The town attorney said he was unaware of any investigation involving the chief.
Hunt has filed as a Democrat for Greene County sheriff, running against incumbent Lemmie Smith.
