Fire investigators say a fire that claimed the life of an 87-year-old woman is believed to accidental.
Killed in the Wednesday afternoon blaze in Snow Hill was Ethel Lewis. Relatives say the woman was alone when the blaze broke out, though her two great-grandchildren, who also lived in the Carver Drive home, arrived home from school right after the blaze broke out.
Emergency Management says the fire started in the kitchen and they have been able to rule out an electrical problem.
Greene County fire crews say an 87-year-old woman was trapped in her home on Carver Drive in Snow Hill.
Flames sparked inside the one-story home just after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Firefighters say the woman suffered from dementia and did not escape the blaze.
Crews are now investigating the cause.
