High Winds Knock Out Power For Hundreds

High winds are causing some people to lose power.

Progress Energy says some 950 customers in the Aurora, Edward & Blounts Creek areas of Beaufort County lost power around 2:00 p.m.

In Craven County, some 330 customers north of Cove City were without power for most of the afternoon, while iIn Halifax County, Progress says approximately 630 customers along Highway 561 lost power around 1:00 p.m.

The utility says high winds are causing power lines to snap, and in other cases winds have brought down power poles themselves.

Earlier, some 1300 customers in the Davis area of Carteret County lost power around noon. The utility says power there has been restored.

Dominion Power says hundreds of customers remain in the dark in their service area. In Halifax County, 543 customers are without power, in Martin County there are about a hundred customers out, while in Washington County some 160 homes are in the dark.
