Cold Causing Havoc With Underground Pipes

The extreme cold is causing major underground pipe problems across the east.

In Kinston city officials say the last couple of weeks they've had to fix on average three water main breaks a day-- because freezing cold temperatures are causing pipes to crack.

Crews worked Monday to fix a break near the intersection of Plaza and Herritage. That meant nearby residents and businesses , including a medical practice, were without water for hours.

Greenville has had six water main breaks within the past two weeks because of pipes cracking in the cold.
