NEW INFO: Police Investigate Armed Attack

A man was attacked during an attempted armed robbery Friday in broad daylight.

Kinston police say the attempted robbery happened in front of Tony's Friendly Mart on East Shine Street just before noon.

Police say three men, one armed with a long gun and two with handguns, approached the Keith Wiggins and demanded money. Wiggins tried to run, but fell. Police say his attackers then hit him with a gun.

All three gunmen were wearing all black, with bandannas covering their faces.

Police say the 49-year-old Wiggins was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital for treatment of a moderate head wound. They say no shots were fired during the attempted robbery.

Wiggins' brother told WITN News that he started to run after one of the attackers, who turned and flashed a large gun at him. At that point the chase ended and the brother returned to tend to the injured Wiggins.

Police say right now they have no suspects in the attack.

The police only have 3 cops assigned to East Kinston. Of course commanders go and do as they please and the SRU team is a complete joke. The leaders starting from Boyd need a fire under their butts. (Especially since the city keeps on building fire stations left and right-but that's another issue especially when you combine fire and police and WHO'S behind all that bull)Do you know their was a memo telling the officers to not patrol Highway 70 where all those fatal accidents occur? KPD corruption at it's finest. Another tidbit...we were forced to turn off our cars and sit still instead of patrolling. Do to gas prices at one time...And guess what gas prices are going up again.

People better wake up and start carrying guns. I know I would want someone to help if someone in my family or friends was being beat and robbed. If ya think I want shoot they better not be in the wrong place at the right time! Someone will be pushing up daisys. Two things I hate, theives and child molesters, both need to be 6 feet under.

hope they catch them, of course they are probably already on probation then the weak on crime judges will simply add another 6 months to their probation and not lock them up. I have sat in on Lenoir CO. court and seen repeat offenders get probation time after time. We need to contact legislators and judges and demand tougher sentences even if it means higher costs for txpayers

To Purebread: I had family members who lived in Kinston for 20 years. By the Grace of GOD, they were able to get out of there. I have visited this city on numerous occassions and never once did I feel safe. We stay in tune with this town because friends are still there and its dangerous and we worry. I read the arrest & incident reports. The state of NC needs to stop running this state like their still in the 50's or 60's. The KPD needs help. They get calls for foolishness. Who calls the police because someone threw a can at them? Where I'm from..the police would never respond to such calls. They have real criminals to catch. YES..I feel sorry for the youth. There is little hope for them. The role models their dont't have enough time to spread their good morals and values around. I am far from a Yankee. I'm a working middle class citizen who feels sad when I see our youth wasting their lives. I wish I could help and I don't even live there. What are you doing to help Pure?

To Visitor of K-Town You say you dont know what is going on in the community of Kinston So how the heck do you know the judicial system is unorganized. You feel sorry for the youth that grow up down there? That is a stupid statement. And your statement of committing crimes is just plain old fun.You have to be from Washington DC or some Yankee Affilliate.Washington DC is a district it is not a state. They are not binded by the constitution because they are not a state. And by the way it has one of the worst crime rates per capita than most states in AMERICA even though it is not a State.Go back to DC an tell them this.

All you people judge way to much! Ktowner #2. Please don't correct someones spelling when you have made numerous grammatical errors. It appears that this is the problem no one wants to solve. Your courts and jails are jam packed with folks who have also commited petty crimes, so when it comes time to house the felons...there is no space. I don't know whats going on in your community but not only do the people of Kinston need help, but so does the judicial system. It is so unorganized down there I don't know how any one functions. I feel sorry for all the youth who have to grow up down there. There is no hope. Anyone living the way these people do are subjected to committing crimes as a way of living or for just plain ole fun. The elected officials should be ashamed of Kinston and should go to Washington DC for help. You guys need it...BADLY

maggie shug you need to learn to spell its "feel" not "fill". are you "filling" a cup of something. you really are kinda talking from ignorance to..... why dont yo u ride with a kinston police officer one night and see just what they do. i know what they do. i know have rode with the police men. they take them to the court house that is PACKED FULL and the judge wont put them in jail unless they murder someone. and while your there maybe you can drop in on court one day just to see how many people are there and how many convictions there are with people just getting probation for shootings, drugs and everything else and then maybe ill listen to your ignorant comments!

hey KTOWNER shows how shy of stupid your comments are if your could read maybe you could look in the free press and see how many arrests are being made. the police cant help that there are liberal judges, jury's, and lawyers. they do their job. like to see you put on a gun and badge and do their job. oh yeah thats right. thats why you call the police when the crap hits the fan........ cause you cant do it. the only thing i do agree with what you said is go bj murphey. maybe if we put one less liberal in office we can do something.
