A man was attacked during an attempted armed robbery Friday in broad daylight.
Kinston police say the attempted robbery happened in front of Tony's Friendly Mart on East Shine Street just before noon.
Police say three men, one armed with a long gun and two with handguns, approached the Keith Wiggins and demanded money. Wiggins tried to run, but fell. Police say his attackers then hit him with a gun.
All three gunmen were wearing all black, with bandannas covering their faces.
Police say the 49-year-old Wiggins was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital for treatment of a moderate head wound. They say no shots were fired during the attempted robbery.
Wiggins' brother told WITN News that he started to run after one of the attackers, who turned and flashed a large gun at him. At that point the chase ended and the brother returned to tend to the injured Wiggins.
Police say right now they have no suspects in the attack.
