The Allen Pearson Emergency Services Foundation Softball Tournament took place Saturday afternoon at Bill Fay Park in Kinston.

Allen Pearson - Lenoir County deputy killed in a shooting Tuesday, April 7, 2009

About 18 different softball teams signed up to come out and support the foundation of a fallen hero.

The Allen Pearson Emergency Services Foundation Softball Tournament took place Saturday afternoon at Bill Fay Park in Kinston.

Organizers says they plan to hold this softball tournament each year. Pearson as you may remember died in the line of duty just about six months ago when he was shot and killed near Grifton on April 6th.

His wife Katherine says she wanted to continue supporting an organization that Allen loved even as a kid.

Just walked in from playing in the softball tournament. What a great time and for a good cause to boot. The whole event was run well and the people were really friendly. Already looking forward to next year.

My husband and I were looking for some sort of activity this weekend, when we decided we would do something different from the seafood festival. My husband played softball many years ago in New Jersey before retiring. So we decided to chance and drive to Kinston to observe the Allen Pearsom memorial softball tournament. Can I say we were so glad we did. Never in my life have I ever enjoyed a softball game or tournament, as much as I enjoyed this. The people, the players, the games, the participants were all spectacular. I never knew Detective Pearson, but how proud he must be of all of you guys and gals for your participation in an event to honor his name. I have never been to a 1st annual function that was as successful as this one. Guys and Gals, give your selves a big pat on the back because you deserve it. And again thank you for a great saturday of entertainment and great softball, God bless you all, and God bless those men and women of our emergency response personel. THANKS!
